Michelle is a wife, mother, and concerned citizen with a strong heart for service. She settled into life in the Lowcountry after marriage 7 years ago and is firmly invested in improving the quality of life available to residents of Charleston and District 114. Michelle was appointed Commissioner of Charleston County Parks and Recreation (CCPRC) by the county council in 2021 and leads food distributions at the Pink House, a neighborhood resource center in West Ashley. Never satisfied to sit on the sidelines and complain, she has completed over 400 hours of service in the Charleston community.
Michelle used her platform as Mrs. Charleston America 2020 (a precursor to Mrs. South Carolina America) to promote financial education and is a member of the school board at her son’s school. She is a team leader of the Charleston Area Justice Ministry (CAJM), a diverse network of faith-based organizations that work together to promote justice in Charleston. She learned the value of organization and discipline as the daughter of an Army Lieutenant Colonel (now retired) which she uses in her personal and professional life. Michelle co-manages a busy household that includes husband of ten years, Justin, and two fun-loving children, Belle and Theo, whom she teaches to dream big while making a big difference.
She graduated from Towson University with a bachelor's degree in Environmental Science and a minor in Meteorology. Before marriage and children, Michelle worked for the MITRE Corporation in McLean, VA as an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist. Before that, she was an Environmental Noise Specialist at the U.S. Army Aberdeen Test Center in Maryland.
Michelle will bring a fresh perspective to the State House. She believes that better decisions are made when there are more points of view at the table. As a person of faith and values, a minority woman with a STEM background (science, technology, engineering, math), and a citizen with a demonstrated interest in the health and well-being of others, she will offer essential representation, as well as experience in leadership, problem-solving, project management, research and critical analysis for the betterment of District 114.
