Michelle Brandt: putting our families first

Meet Michelle

Michelle is a wife, mother, and environmental scientist with a heart for public service. She co-manages a busy household that includes husband of ten years, Justin, and two fun-loving children, Belle and Theo, so she knows how deeply traffic, cost of living, education, health care, and flooding impact the families of our district.

She teaches her children to dream big while making a big difference, and she shows them how to practically live this out with her own work. She models initiative, hope, and service by leading in various areas in our community, including:

  • Commissioner of Charleston County Parks and Recreation Commission
  • Member of the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce (CMCC) Regional Housing Coalition
  • School Improvement Council (SIC) member of Saint Andrews School of Mathematics and Science
  • School board member of Carolina Voyager Charter School
  • Graduate of the CMCC Civic Leadership Academy
  • Team leader and steering committee member of the Charleston Area Justice Ministry (CAJM)
  • Leader of food distributions at the Pink House in West Ashley
  • Member of the Charleston Area Urban League
  • Member of the Regional Policy Committee of the CMCC
  • 2022 Presidential Volunteer Service Award recipient

Michelle and Justin Brandt

Michelle is committed to solutions that put our families first and work for everyone. As the daughter of a (now retired) Army Lieutenant Colonel, she knows that real solutions require organization, collaboration, discipline, and accountability. She will combine this commitment to excellence with her analytical mind and scientific skill to create true solutions to our area’s biggest problems.

We must do better than the status quo. Our communities will be stronger, safer, and healthier when we all work together to find solutions.

It’s time to elect someone focused on facing our challenges - not partisan politics. Support Michelle for State House District 114.

Her Background

Michelle graduated from Towson University with a bachelor's degree in Environmental Science and a minor in Meteorology. She has worked for the MITRE Corporation in McLean, VA as an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist. Before that, she was an Environmental Noise Specialist at the U.S. Army Aberdeen Test Center in Maryland. She has experience both as a stay-at-home mom and as a working mom, and she knows first hand that access to childcare, reasonable commutes, safe neighborhoods, and quality education are essential for families to thrive.
